Located on the French Atlantic coast, Biarritz is famous for many things such as its story with Empress Eugénie (wife of Napoleon III). After a visit in the 1850’s, Biarritz became her favorite summertime destination. She transformed the sleepy fishing village into a fashionable beach town.

Although the city has kept its charm thanks to its exclusive restaurants, magnificient houses and casinos, today it also attracts a younger clientele.

This has a reason: Biarritz is well-known as Europe’s surf capital, with its long sandy beaches and great surfing conditions all year round.

Our school in Biarritz runs a specific surfing course, giving you the perfect opportunity to combine your French tuition with surfing lessons!

If you are a beginner or you are an experienced surfer, you will enjoy our special programme.

Once you have visited Biarritz’s historical sites and surfed the area’s waves to exhaustion, take some time to explore the cities around like Bayonne for its exquisite gastronomy or try Basque pelota, the traditional sport of the region.

Biarritz is a small town, so it’s easy to meet people and make friends, and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to speak French with the locals!

Our partner school in Biarritz has more than 15 years of experience and is accredited by the French Ministry of Education. The teachers are all native speakers and are FLE university graduates (diploma of French teaching as a Foreign Language) and have significant teaching experience in France and abroad. Some of them have additional training in other sectors (foreign languages, communication, etc…). 

You will study in a beautiful area not far from the city center which is easily accessible on foot (10 minutes) or with the free shuttle. The school offers a family atmosphere with a maximum capacity of 84 international students.

This programme is specifically designed to combine french courses and surfing.

Morning lessons are focus on teaching general French. You will improve all your language skills. It covers communication, expression, listening activities, essay planning, grammar and vocabulary, in a group of 13 students maximum (8 on average). A french manual is provided.

Classes take place Monday to Friday, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (including a 15 minute break). You will attend 20 lessons per week.

5 afternoons per week, you will have 1h30 of surfing lessons.

On the first day, you will take a written and oral French test to assess your language level and assign you to a class. In the afternoon, you will be able to take part on guided tour of the town.

Surfing lessons are tailored to suit the abilities and requirements of each student
Classes are given by certified state-approved instructors

Your programme includes 5 sessions of 1.5 hours of surfing per week, suitable for beginners or experienced surfers. 

The beaches used for the surf lessons offer a variety of high-quality beach breakers and waves more suitable to beginners. All the surf instructors hold a diploma from the “Federation de Surf” to prove their competence to teach surfing. All the wet-suits and surf boards are provided by the surf school.

If you want to practice longer after classes, you will find equipment to rent near the beach.

In the afternoon or evening, our partner school organises activities for an additional price: rafting, sea kayaking, hiking, basque pelota, visits to museums and traditional villages, cooking classes, etc…

Each activity is supervised by a qualified professional.

We encourage you to join in some organised activities to have fun whilst practicing your French !

Our partner school offers accommodation in a host family. 

We advise you to stay with a local host family. Through living with a family, you will be fully immersed in the country’s lifestyle and improve your french.

Our local host families are vetted and chosen rigorously by our language school partner. Most of them have been hosting for years. The location of their homes is an average 20 minutes on foot from the school.

You have the choice between full or half board.

Accommodation is from the Sunday prior to the course start date until the Saturday after the end of the course (you can book extra-nights).

This programme is available without accommodation.
